Top Tips You'll Get From Your Marketing Coach

January 24, 2025

As a Farm Bureau agent, you’re not just selling insurance — you’re working hard to make sure your friends, neighbors and community are protected from the unexpected. That’s why being a Farm Bureau insurance agent is so rewarding.

While many new agents bring various skills with them when they start here, most people need support in some areas. We understand that, so we provide the training and resources you need to hit the ground running.

Many agents — new and experienced — benefit from the marketing resources for insurance agents we provide. Here, Katrina Thornton, a Marketing Coach in Kansas, answers some top questions about marketing strategies for insurance agents and the support marketing coaches offer to new agents at Farm Bureau.

What Is the Marketing Coaching Program?

Our marketing coaching program isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a partnership between you and your coach designed around your specific needs. Marketing coaches help build your brand through community presence, digital marketing and strategic marketing campaigns.

Whatever you need, we’re here to help! We support you throughout every stage, helping you leverage the marketing tools that can skyrocket your success.

When Does Marketing Coaching Start?

Your marketing coaching starts right away. Once you become an agent with Farm Bureau, you’ll partner with one of our 12 marketing coaches across the eight states that we offer multi-line coverage in.

You’ll typically have an initial meeting with your coach within your second month as an agent. At that meeting, your coach will introduce you to the marketing coaching program and get you set up and started. In the following weeks, a marketing curriculum is also available that will provide agents the basic knowledge for a successful start.

What Is Your Goal as a Marketing Coach?

Our main priority is to set new agents up for success by guiding them through the tools they can use to start building their business from day one. When we first meet with new agents, we put together a customized marketing plan to get them off to a fast start in the first few months.

There are so many programs and resources available to our agents, and our role is to help you understand what they are, when they can make the most impact and how to use them to achieve goals.

If you’re like most new agents, in the first few months we’ll focus on these three areas:

  • How you can use social media to connect with potential and current clients
  • How to build your brand through networking and community engagement
  • How our Customer Relations Management (CRM) system can keep business organized

Who Else Is on Your Farm Bureau Team?

At Farm Bureau, we understand that becoming an insurance agent is a big step. We don’t just offer marketing coaching. We set you up for success by providing you with a team of industry experts.

Even if you don’t have a background in sales or insurance, we’ll help provide you with the tools you need to learn how to run a prosperous business. You’ll also have this support team by your side:

Your Farm Bureau district manager is your mentor, coach and the first person you’ll typically turn to when you have questions or need advice. They will help you work through any concerns you may have as an insurance agent. They will be with you throughout the entire process as you learn the best methods for building your business in the ways that work best for you.

Agriculture and Commercial Marketing Underwriters

You can turn to our marketing underwriters when you have complicated ag or commercial business cases. Their extensive knowledge in these areas means you can give your clients the unparalleled service Farm Bureau is known for. They will help you reach your sales goals, assist you with understanding complex products and attend client meetings with you.

Farm Bureau field trainers will be by your side at meetings to provide hands-on training in various situations. They’ll make sure you are enrolled in training programs that can help you advance your skills, whether you’re a new or experienced agent.

Regional Crop Consultants

Complicated ag cases are no sweat for Farm Bureau agents, who can call on experienced crop consultants to ensure that clients in the ag community are receiving the kind of protection they need.

Veteran Agents

Every successful Farm Bureau agent was in your shoes at some point. You can connect with them to ask how they handled situations and challenges that came up when they were new agents. Their knowledge and support are invaluable.
