When you’re a parent, balancing your work and home life can be a struggle. You may find that childcare expenses are so steep it almost doesn’t seem worth it to work. And when your kids are sick or bad weather keeps them home, all your work plans can get sidelined.
For many working parents, the solution is a family-friendly job that offers solid work-life balance. That’s why at Farm Bureau, we offer a rewarding and exciting business opportunity that’s perfect for parents seeking flexible scheduling — and unlimited earning potential.
With an insurance agent job opportunity, you’re the boss. It’s a flexible job for a parent. You’re in charge of your schedule, so you can block off time for a school concert, leave early to see a soccer game or adjust your schedule when the orthodontist can only fit you in at 11 a.m.
Of course, there might be nights when you’re answering emails, or weekends when you’re on your laptop, but those are your decisions to make. If you’re looking for a flexible job for a parent that pays well, it’s definitely a job to consider.
At Farm Bureau, we understand that making the switch to a family-friendly job might sound like a great idea, but you might not be sure it’s the right move for you and your family.
That’s why we have the Developing Agent Program. With it, you gain the power to build your own business and work flexible hours without sacrificing the earnings you receive from your current job.
Here’s how it works.
1. Try It on for Size
With the Developing Agent Program, you spend one to four months learning what it’s like to be a Farm Bureau agent without being required to leave your current job. You have the chance to explore the insurance business on your own terms and walk through the decision-making process without jeopardizing your financial stability.
You’ll meet with prospective client/members, learn about Farm Bureau expectations and commitments and work toward sales goals. You’ll arrange your work schedule so you’re paid for your efforts while you have the flexibility to keep your current job.
2. Transition Smoothly
We designed this program because we know what new agents need to succeed. You’ll have a district manager as your personal mentor, easing your transition to becoming a full-time Farm Bureau agent.
Through the program, you’ll understand the expectations of the role and the level of commitment you’ll need to succeed as an agent. Together, we’ll decide if the opportunity is the right fit for you, your family and the community you’ll serve.
3. Earn While You Learn
Your district manager will help you prepare for your property-casualty and life insurance licenses. Since these licenses give you the ability to sell insurance, this is a great job to support a family.
After you’re licensed, you’ll earn commission on the products you sell. Just like our agents, you’ll get paid based on the sales you make, not on the time clock. The more you sell, the more you’ll earn. Our commission scale is a competitive multiline exclusive agent contract in the industry.
As a parent, you want to provide for your children, and working as a Farm Bureau agent gives you solid earning potential:
- On average, a first-year Farm Bureau agent makes 49% more than agents with other companies.
- In 2023, the top 50% of agents earned at least $225,793, and their average income was $586,170.
- The top 25% of agents earned at least $448,246, and their average income was $859,263.
- The top 10% of agents earned at least $794,975, and their average income was $1,269,892.
4. Become Your Own Boss
When you complete the Developing Agent Program, we provide you with the resources, training and support you need to succeed in the insurance and financial services industry. Plus, you’ll be backed by an extensive support network to help ease the transition and optimize success.
As a fully licensed Farm Bureau agent, you’ll experience the freedom and flexibility of being your own boss, creating your own schedule and building lifelong relationships with your customers, all while enjoying unlimited earning potential and growing your income in less time than you may think.
